Product Category is an essential field for any stock item and Product Group, and therefore is an essential field for Workshop Job Codes as well (as each Job code must belong to a group)

The Category is an organisational field above all else, grouping different Product Groups together (eg. Parts as a category defining all stocked parts) and does not have the same level of reporting options as Groups.

Queries Tab

Category List - Lists all categories.

Groups in Category - Lists only groups belonging to the selected category.

- General Ledger accounts can be assigned to categories to supercede the settings in the General Ledger Control account settings, and the Product Group GL settings.
